Flyfishing Idaho - Henry's Fork of the Snake RiverHenry's Fork Lodge, Henry's Fork of the Snake River, Idaho

Henry's Fork of the Snake River, flyfishing Idaho

One of the finest wild trout streams in the West is the Henry's Fork of the Snake River below Island Park Reservoir in Idaho. As the Henry's Fork flows through Harriman State Park and downstream, it is mainly renown for its dry fly fishing for big, selective rainbows. Sitting on a promontory overlooking the river about three miles downstream of the Osborn Bridge is the Henry's Fork Lodge. Designed by the late Joe Esherick, the world-renown award winning architect, who was also a flyfisher, this lodge clearly shows its pedigree. After a day of fishing, there is the extreme pleasure of being served a beverage on the veranda only to be distracted by seeing fish rise in the river below.

Guest accommodations include four rooms and two suites in the main lodge. Two other separate buildings have eight units sharing a similar layout. There is a spacious living area with a fireplace and a comfortable bedroom joined to a bathroom. The river can be seen from each unit. Furnishings for all the rooms are what you would expect at a fine lodge.

cuisineThe living area in the main lodge has a high ceiling with a large fireplace. Angling art and Native American artifacts decorates the walls. A smaller, but spacious room for gathering adjoins the main room and it too has a fireplace. Upstairs, where guests stay, is a reading area with a library with many titles.

Dining at the lodge is under the direction of a talented chef. His reputation in the area ranges wide and it isn't unusual for people to drive from West Yellowstone for dinner as the dining room is open to the public. When the weather is pleasant, meals can be taken outdoors on a patio overlooking the river.

Guiding can be arranged with the most experienced guides in the area. Within easy driving distance are the famous Box Canyon of the Henry's Fork, the Madison River, Hebgen Lake, Island Park Reservoir and the waters in Yellowstone Park. Lodge personnel are happy to suggest a variety of activities for non angling guests. An informal and friendly atmosphere is maintained at the lodge with help ever ready should it be needed.
