Green River below Fontenelle Reservoir, Wyoming

Green River below Fontenelle Reservoir

Every now and then, we have the pleasure of finding a guide who is not only an excellent instructor and amiable companion, but one who delights so much in seeing his clients catch fish that his enthusiasm is catching. Bennie Johnson is such a guide and his beat is the Green River below Fontenelle Reservoir in Wyoming. This part of the Green River is not to be confused with the stream in Utah, which is overrun with anglers. There is less pressure on the Green below Fontenelle and there are not nearly as many fish as below Flaming Gorge Reservoir. However, the fish here can grow large.

Bennie is admittedly a hog hunter, seeking the biggest fish that swim in his home stream. Many subscribers to "The Inside Angler" have fished with Bennie at our suggestion and none have been disappointed. Large fish are not caught on every trip, but everyone feels that they had the services of the best guide on this part of the river and they are correct. His fish senses are so keen that other guides actually spy on him. This complement by his peers tells the story.
