Other donors who could not join us were Paul Wilms from Wilms Ranch in Pope Valley, California, Mike Costello of Pacific Adventures based at Discovery Bay in California, David Armocido of Middle Fork Outfitters from Colusa, California and Milt Jensen of Merganser Outfitters from Chico, California, who made a donation to fish Five Dot Reservoir in California.

Fishabout, the travel company headquartered in Los Gatos, (800/409-2000), (408/354-4396), and e-mail: trips@fishabout.com joined with Orland Outfitters, (530/865-8337), and web site: orlandoutfitters to donate fishing at Coffee Cup Lake, which we used as a game prize. This donation came to us after all the Party material was printed and the mailing made. In the mad rush to prepare for the Party, we failed to invite a representative from these two businesses to come to the Party. We apologize for this oversight and hope they can join us next year. Fishabout deals in world travel. Orland Outfitters guides anglers on the Sacramento River for trout, shad, salmon, steelhead and striped bass.

Besides the Reel Game sponsored by Abel Quality Products, there were two other games to play.

The Fishing Game was sponsored by Fenwick and the prizes were four Fenwick fly rods plus one of their new machined fly reels.

Umpqua Feather Merchants sponsored the Fish Game. Contestants were allowed to pick a film canister from a fish pinata. Inside each canister was a piece of paper on which was written either "Keeper" or "Release." Those who got a "keeper" were instant winners and allowed to chose a prize between ten fly boxes full of UFM flies and five copies of "Fly Patterns of Umpqua Feather Merchants."

Those attending the Party had the chance to win two special raffle items. Orvis sent one of their Silver Label "No Sweat" Bootfoot Waders, a quality pair of waders at moderate prices.

Redington donated their Millenium Outfit consisting of a DFR2000 590 matched to a Redington Hart RH II Reel. The value of this outfit was $1,000 and won by Midori Furiya. "The Inside Angler" greatly appreciates these donations and support from two of the leading manufactures of the flyfishing industry.

No one left without a prize as a fly box commemorating the Party was given to everyone.

Some of the notables attending the Party included John McCosker, former director of the Steinhart Aquarium in San Francisco, now seen regularly on the Discovery TV Channel. John came with his wife, Pam. We were happy that Ed Rice, founder of the International Sportsmen's Expositions, now approaching retirement and making up for lost time fishing around the world, could join us. Cheryl Hoey, manager of Orvis San Francisco, came with her daughter Leslie and her husband Jack, a long time subscriber to "The Inside Angler." Not so well known and long-time subscribers Enoch Callaway and Aubrey Metcalf were in attendance. They collaborated on the entertaining and original article "Two Psychiatrists Analyze a Shared Obsession" appearing in the January/February 2000 issue of California Fly Fisher. We hope to read more from these two doctors with obvious talents other than their profession.

Mel and Fanny Krieger delayed their departure for Argentina to attend the Party. The Kriegers donated four of Mel's video tapes on casting, which we used as door prizes. His latest is "The Essence of Spey Casting." Check out their web site at melkrieger.com for detailed information about Mel's books, videos, schools and world wide travel.

Thanks to all who came to the Party and those who purchased raffle tickets.

Special thanks go to our many subscribers who acted as game hosts and helpers. Jan and Carole Kurahara came all the way from Thousand Oaks in southern California to help with the Reel Game sponsored by Able Quality Products. Jan and Carole work with the Sage Company to put on casting clinics and they also entertain groups with their presentations. When fishing and related activities don't interfere, Jan is an attorney and Carole is a specialist in the field of high tech biology. Assisting them was Terry Walling, retired fire fighter and long-time flyfisher.

Floyd and Janet Dean helped with the Fishing Game sponsored by Fenwick. Floyd is a tournament caster and casting instructor and both of the Deans love to fish.

At the Fish Game sponsored by Umpqua Feather Merchants, Kate Blubaugh and young Matthew McWilliams helped the winners in selecting prizes. Two picnic baskets donated by "The Inside Angler" rounded out the prizes at this grab bag type game.

Wes and Linda Wada from Bend, Oregon did some of the photography and helped to distribute door prizes and performed other duties. The Wadas created and maintain our web site, insideangler.com. They can be reached at wes@wadaworks.com should you want to enter the virtual world.

Other helpers included Londa Ottley, who managed the sale of raffle tickets, Mary Farr, and Jim Crawford from Montana, who is our British Columbia and Alaska reporter. Doing much of the announcing was Richard Dudzinski from Sound Explosion.
