Marin Islands Angling Adventures

Broken Arrow Lodge

Captain Brian A. "Bud" Wilson of Marin Islands Angling Adventures has a passion for striped bass. Chris and I got a first-hand taste of this enthusiasm last autumn on San Francisco Bay and we reported on our experience in Volume X, Number 1, January 2001.

It was one of those perfect autumn mornings on the Bay and stripers were busting baitfish on the surface shortly after the sun’s rays came on the water. Were it not for Captain Wilson’s expert guidance and reliable tackle, Chris and I could never have realized the sensational fishing that we had.

We found him capable and he offered advice and instruction that would only enhance the chances for beginners and experienced anglers alike. You may bring your own tackle, but our advice is to use what he supplies and to rely on the flies he ties.

Captain Wilson is based at Western Boat and Tackle in San Rafael, where he keeps his boat. From here, it is just a short ride to the most productive flyfishing spots in the Bay. His comfortable center console sportsfisher moves swiftly and softly across the water and when he arrives to his destination, a powerful electric motor aids in stealthy approaches to wary stripers.

"Elsie’s Gift" can easily accommodate two anglers and if light tackle halibut and salmon fishing interest you, he can assist you here too. During the late autumn and winter, he guides anglers in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta.
